Marco Simoncelli Bakal Jadi Nama Sirkuit

TREK sirkuit Misano World yang berada di Italia akan diganti namanya menjadi sirkuit Marco Simoncelli sebagai penghormatan kepada pembalap Italia berjuluk Super Sic yang meninggal di MotoGP musim 2011 ini.

Usulan perubahan nama itu datang baru dua pekan setelah Simoncelli meninggal dalam tragedi MotoGP Sepang. Para pengelola langsung setuju dengan pergantian nama sirkuit tersebut.

"Kami ingin mengenang Sic (Simoncelli) dan turut berdukacita untuk keluarganya dan juga ribuan penggemar yang sangat mengaguminya sebagai seorang pembalap pemberani," kata Luca Colaiacovo, CEO Santamonica Spa.

"Kami senang dan bangga mengganti nama Misano dengan Marco Simoncelli, seorang juara di ajang olahraga balap motor dan juga dalam kehidupan ini," kata Luca.

Pemilik sirkuit juga siap mengambil jalur hukum untuk menguatkan nama Simoncelli sebagai satu-satunya nama sirkuit di dunia sehingga tidak ada lagi penggunaan nama serupa yang berhubungan dengan nama Simoncelli.

Sebelunya sirkuit Misano sempat diusulkan diganti namanya dengan nama beberapa pembalap yang jadi korban balap di ajang MotoGP. Namun perubahan nama tersebut tidak bisa dilakukan langsung, ada proses untuk pergantian nama terlebih dahulu.

Trek ini memiliki panjang 4,064 km dengan 11 tikungan dekat kota Misano Adriatico, provinsi Romini. Didesain tahun 1969 dan dibangun dari 1970 sampai 1972. Pertama kali race balap motor di kelas paling bergengsi dunia termasuk MotoGP di tahun 1981.

Simoncelli sendiri belum pernah merasakan kemenangan di sirkuit ini, pada musim ini ia menempati posisi finis keempat di bawah Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa, dan Casey Stoner. Sedangkan pada musim 2010, saat masih berstatus pendatang baru, ia finis di peringkat ke-14.
